Clothing Care
These garments do not need a lot of special care because we use
high-quality fabrics, and shrinkage in washing is minimal. Some
attention will be necessary, though, and you should be very happy
with your purchase.
Remembering the rayon batiked fabric has been heavily saturated
with dye in production, you can expect some dye to come out of the
garment in the washing process (but this will not affect the color
of your garment), so please follow these instructions (included
with each garment) for the rayon batik:
*Always wash separately. It is also a good idea, if you have
purchased two pieces (i.e., a set), to wash them together the
first few times, so if there is a slight color variation, it will
happen to both of them at the same time.
*Wash in cool water, adding 1 tablespoon of ordinary table salt
to the water; this helps to set the colors, and let soak for about
10 minutes, then
rinse in cool water also.
*Hang to dry
*A light steam ironing will be necessary
The cotton/linen hand painted fabric should also be washed
separately in cool water without the salt, and using a gentle laundry
soap. If you have purchased two pieces (i.e., a set) we recommend
that you wash the two pieces together the first few times, as above,
so if there is any color variation, it will occur at the same time
for both of them; then hang to dry. Iron wrong side out, avoiding
prolonged ironing over the hand painted design.
WE RECOMMEND HAND WASHING FOR ALL OUR GARMENTS BECAUSE IT IS THE
MOST GENTLE WAY TO CARE FOR YOUR HAND PRINTED FABRICS. But, we do
find that many of our customers wash our garments on the gentle
cycle in the machine, and have no complaints! DO NOT USE A DRYER
for drying, but hang to dry. All natural fibers will shrink a little
in drying, and ironing brings the threads back to size.
