Silver Art Jewelry
Our jewelry art pieces are from the Indonesian island of Sumba, where traditional customs are still practiced. The pendants are called mamolies; some are heirloom pieces, gifted to the next generation thru ceremonies, and especially given as a gift to a bride’s family when asking for a woman’s hand in marriage, and some are reproductions of the traditional mamolies. Whether new or old, they are beautiful pieces of silver or a silver/brass combination. The chains are pure silver wire, braided by hand in the traditional way of the Sumbanese silversmiths ; this is an old method of jewelry making, and is very, very labor intensive. There are no machine manufactured components on the jewelry – every part is made by hand and is in itself unique and traditionally styled.
